Editing and creating partitions using GParted
- Move all your data from drives E, F, G ... to your drive D
or burn them on CD/DVD, all your data on drives C and D will remain safe.
- Do this step using a linux live CD with GParted package installed. I've used Ubuntu 5.10 Live CD here.
- Set your BIOS to boot up your pc from CDROM, insert Ubuntu 5.10 Live CD and reboot your pc.
- In this step we will create a / and a swap partition for our Ubuntu installation and a /home partition to keep our data there.
- Like the shot below start GParted.
- Your HDD partitioning may look like the shot below. Now
start modifying existing partitions and create new linux partitions for
Ubuntu installation.
- We will keep our C and D drives and delete all other partitions to free some space for our Ubuntu installation.

- And then we will start creating our Ubuntu partitions in the free space.
