Graphical Boot Management using GAG
Downloading GAG
- If you are in Windows now, download GAG here with your favorite download manager and then extract the package.
- If you are in Linux now, download GAG and extract it using commands below.
wget -c http://voxel.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/gag/gag45d.zip
unzip gag45d.zip -d ~
Coping and preparing GAG on a floppy in MS DOS
- Insert a formatted floppy in floppy drive, change directory to extracted GAG folder then run install.bat.
Coping and preparing GAG on a floppy in MS Windows
- Insert a formatted floppy in floppy drive, change directory to extracted GAG folder and double click on install.bat.
Coping and preparing GAG on a floppy in MS Windows Xp
- Insert a formatted floppy in floppy drive, change directory to extracted GAG folder and double click on install_xp.cmd.
Coping and preparing GAG on a floppy in Linux
- Insert a formatted floppy in floppy drive, and run these commands in terminal.
cd ~/gag45
dd if=disk.dsk of=/dev/fd0 bs=512 count=2880
Configuring & installing GAG on HDD
- Set your BIOS to boot up your pc from Floppy, insert the Floppy
you created in last step into floppy drive and reboot your pc.
- When you see the below shot press 4 to start the GAG installation.
- When you see this Remember page below, press any key to continue.
- Press 1 here to choose your keyboard.
- Press F to choose English language here.
- This step is for configuring GAG boot manager. When you see the below shot press S.
- Press A to add an OS to your boot manager.
- Press B to add Windows Xp to boot manager.
- Type Windows Xp in the popup window.
- If you wish your boot manager ask password before entering in
Windows Xp type a password here, and If you would like to enter your
Windows Xp without permission press Enter when you see this popup.
- Now choose an icon for your Windows Xp to be shown in boot manager. I press C for Windows icon here.
- Press A to add an OS to your boot manager.
- Press C to add Ubuntu to boot manager.
- Type Ubuntu in the popup window.
- If you wish your boot manager ask password before entering in
Ubuntu type a password here, and If you would like to enter your Ubuntu
without permission press Enter when you see this popup.
- Now choose an icon for your Ubuntu to be shown in boot manager. I press D for Linux icon here.
- Press H to install GAG with these configuration on HDD or press
F to install on Floppy, Note that if you install GAG with these
configurations on Floppy you need to boot from Floppy to see GAG menu
and boot with GAG.
- I press H here to install GAG on my HDD, a popup will show GAG succesfull installation.
- Remove the floppy and set your BIOS to boot from HDD and reboot your pc.
- You will see the GAG boot manager interface when you turn on
your pc, Now press 1 to enter Windows Xp and press 2 to enter Ubuntu.
Uninstalling GAG from HDD
- Set your BIOS configuration to boot from floppy.
- Insert your GAG floppy in floppy drive and turn on your pc.
- In the first configuration step press 5 to uninstall GAG.
